Views from a restaurant at Tanjung Belungkor

At another part of Tanjung Belungkor is a restaurant facing another body of water.

I've been here once before end of 2011.

Then, I thought the body of water is Sungai (river of) Lebam.

Moving on to a 'floating' section of the restaurant and its jetty....

It was in this latest visit that I learned the land in front is actually an island.

The body of water is in fact part of the much wider Sungai (river of) Johor...

And Sungai Lebam which flows into Sungai Johor is actually 6 km from here.

In the middle is Sungai Johor estuary...

Views at Tanjung Belungkor ferry terminal

Continued from Holiday and rest at Desaru.

Sunday 7th December 2014. After breakfast and some rest me and wife left the kids to play at the swimming pool and followed a friend to Tanjung Belungkor. First stop is the ferry terminal there.

It offers services to Changi in Singapore and Batam Island in Indonesia.

However we were there to just check out the views.

The terminal faces the waters of the Straits of Tebrau which separates the state of Johor and Singapore.

The land in the background is Pulau (island of) Tekong in Singapore. For the record this is the 1,331th article in this blogspot.

Holiday and rest at Desaru

Soon we arrived at a resort hotel in Desaru.

The last time we were here was 5 years ago. It was for a short stay en-route to other places. Look at the article Desaru from one of its best resort.

That time there were only me, the wife and a newly-born son, then just about 40+ days old. This time there's the son who is already 5 year old, his 2 years and 9 month younger brother, their 14-year-old sister and 12 year-old brother. So we got a 2-storey room. And we were going to stay 2 nights...

The room faces the South China Sea. A look from the lower level.

On to the upper floor...

The views...

The long bridge over Sungai Johor

Peace be upon you all. Last weekend me and family went to Desaru for holiday. As usual places on the way and after were visited. So let some be shared...

We left home Friday 5th December and spent the night at a relative's place in Alor Gajah. The following day we continued the journey south on to the city of Johor Bahru before heading eastwards to Desaru. This routes lead to a bridge which I have long wanted to pass through. If not mistaken it was opened to traffic 3-4 years ago but until that day I haven't got the occasion to use it...

The Sungai (river of) Johor is a relatively short but very wide river.  For 7 km from its mouth the width is about 4 km, for another 13 km upriver it is an average 1.5 to 2 km wide.

A check with Google Earth shows that the bridge passes above almost 1.8 km of water. But it has passed an island earlier. Include that in the picture and the river here in total should be 4 km wide.

A look towards the river mouth.

Sorry can't take clearer pictures as vehicles are not allowed to stop. Maybe I would take better pictures next time by riding a bike...
