Around Muar's Masjid Jamek during the recent 1st Syawal

Peace be upon you all. Today is the 5th day of the Muslim festive month of Syawal, at least in Malaysia. Let me share something from the first day of the month.

In the Muslim calendar, the 1st day of Syawal, also known as Aidil Fitri  came after a month of compulsory fasting during the holy month of Ramadhan. This year it falls on 6th July. Muslims are encouraged, in fact commanded to celebrate as we start the 1st day by doing the non-obligatory but highly recommended Aidil Fitri prayers in congregation at a mosque.

In my case I returned to my hometown of Muar. The Masjid Jamek, main mosque of Muar was where I made the prayers.

Here are views of the mosque compound from an open area a level up at the mosque...

I took these during the sermon after prayers...

The mosque lies beside the Muar river close to its mouth.
