Going around Takbai

Continuing from The beach at Narathiwat.

From Narathiwat we moved some 30 km south-east to get to the district of Takbai...

This is the district closest to Malaysia from the east coast of southern Thailand.

It used to be part of the Malaysian state of Kelantan...

But that was before Malaysia was created in 1963.

Kelantan used to be an independent kingdom before it was colonised by the Thai kingdom based in Bangkok. Then the Thais made a treaty with the British in 1909 and the borders were altered such that the district of Takbai (its Malay name is Tabal) was made a Thai dominion.
