Sunset views of Lake Songkhla

Next we raced towards a larger part of the lake of Songkhla and found a spot to get some nice views.

I have seen these parts before but from faraway on top of the hill at old Singgora. Look at the old article Observing the surroundings from Singgora hill defence fort.

Since then I've harboured a wish to see it up close.

And so there I was enjoying sunset from the lakeside...

Songkhla town from south of old Singgora

Upon arriving at the old town of Singgora we immediately went through it but pressed further south.

You can see the old town through the old article Looking at the small town at old Singgora. We went further to get to the south side which I didn't have time to visit the last time I was around because I had no transport.

From there we caught sight of the modern town of Songkhla across a part of the Songkhla lake...

Here's looking at the modern town...

Bringing the car for a ferry ride to old Singgora

Continuing from A look at the town of Chenak.

After having lunch and visiting the local mosque at Chenak we went to the town of Songkhla. We didn't stop at the town. Instead we went straight further north to get to the ferry jetty there.

We wanted to get to an old part of Songkhla. For the record Songkhla is how the Thai people call this area and district. The Malay name is Singgora

After waiting in-line for almost 45 minutes we got on the ferry.

I have been on the ferry once before. But then I arrived on foot and didn't have to wait long to get on board. Look at the old article Taking the ferry to old Singgora.

That time I travelled alone after spending some time with some friends in Patani. This time I brought the family and two friends in our own car...

Enjoying the scenery around. This was like an hour before sunset...

A look at the town of Chenak

Peace be upon you all. On to the 3rd day of the Thailand trip 12-23 December.

Thursday afternoon 14th December 2017. We left the town of Pattani heading for Songkhla over 100 km to the north. On the way we stopped to find lunch at the town of Chana.

That's the Thai name for the town though.

The locals who are mostly Malays call it Chenak...

In fact Chana is just the way the Thais call Chenak in their tounge...
