Crossing Golok river by ferry from Takbai

Continuing from Golok river mouth at Takbai.

The crossing area to get back to Malaysia lies quite close to the Golok river mouth..

Seen here is the ferry for those who brought their vehicles.

Otherwise you can take boats like this to cross.

After quite a long wait it's time to bring our car onboard...

Seen here across the river is the immigration and customs complex of Malaysia...

As the boat left Takbai I took pictures from many angles...

Closing in to Malaysia, to the immigration and customs complex at Pengkalan Kubor town that is...

Soon we were ready to embark on Malaysian soil. For the record this is the 1,888th article in this blogspot.

Golok river mouth at Takbai

Continuing from Golok river from Takbai.

It is from Takbai that we wanted to return to Malaysia by crossing the Golok river.

At the immigration and customs complex I caught sight of this body of water and went for a closer look...

It is the mouth of the Golok river.

From there I looked at the river mouth from many angles...

Golok river from Takbai

Continuing from Going around Takbai.

One part of Takbai lies along a main river...

This is the Golok river which forms the natural boundary between southern Thailand and the country of Malaysia.

Across lies the town of Pengkalan Kubor in the Malaysian state of Kelantan...

Going around Takbai

Continuing from The beach at Narathiwat.

From Narathiwat we moved some 30 km south-east to get to the district of Takbai...

This is the district closest to Malaysia from the east coast of southern Thailand.

It used to be part of the Malaysian state of Kelantan...

But that was before Malaysia was created in 1963.

Kelantan used to be an independent kingdom before it was colonised by the Thai kingdom based in Bangkok. Then the Thais made a treaty with the British in 1909 and the borders were altered such that the district of Takbai (its Malay name is Tabal) was made a Thai dominion.
