Train station of Gemas

Next on the list is the train station of Gemas...

For the record this is the station that connects both the north-south Hatyai - KL - Singapura route to the south - eastern coast Singapura -Gemas - Tumpat route.

This is because Gemas is situated just south of the mainland mountain range of Banjaran Titiwangsa, a range which extends northwards into southern Thailand. This makes it impossible to connect the western coast to the east directly by train. Thus anyone from Perlis down to Kedah, Perak and Selangor have to get to Gemas first before turning into Pahang and on to Kelantan.

Oh, the town of Gemas is in Negeri Sembilan but it is just 1 km or so from the borders of Johor...

While there is a direct train from KL to Tumpat, Kelantan via Gemas it is only available once a day and only at night. For those who wants to take in the view, it is advisable to catch the early morning train from KL to Gemas then hop on the connecting Singapura-Tumpat service...
