Family kenduri at Seria

OK. I've decided that I want to finish the Brunei stories by Friday. So I'll be dishing out stories daily in my blogspots to meet the target. Do excuse me if I sound like fastracking everything. Here's one...

On Friday our host Hajah Sopiah and family took me, wife and baby to her parent's home in Seria, a place about 100 km from Bandar Seri Begawan.

After conducting the Friday prayers at a nearby mosque, the house hosted a tahlil (reciting of verses of remembrance of God) and me and family were invited along with the locals.

As usual in Malay custom, a tahlil session would be followed by at least a minor feast given out by the hosts.

Now I can't remember what the tahlil was meant for (normally it's done to commemorate something like the safe return of relative from abroad or remembering a deceased family member). But the feast was of the scale of a kenduri (a big or fairly big feast) which make us feel really welcomed in Brunei.

That's my wife with Hajah Sopiah.

Our kid baby Al-Rasyid playing around with Hajah Sopiah's son Jep.
