Crossing Landak river at Mungguk

Continuing from Going to Mungguk.

The place we were aiming for is the right spot for crossing the Landak river around here.

The river is 100 metres wide and the mode of transport are sampans, small traditional boats.

There. The local headman would take us across.

Pictures from the boat...

Mind you we have to be very carefull when moving our bodies as the sampan is very sensitive to the slightest movement. Go off balance and it could turn over...

Ah. Closing in on the other side.

Safely on land and starting to look back.

The small town or rather, village of Mungguk in view...

The reason we crossed the river is to get to the tomb of a Muslim king who ruled the kingdom of Landak more than 500 years ago. Look at the article Makam (Tomb of) Raja Abdul Kahar in the blogspot SENI LAMA MELAYU (MALAY OLDEN ART).
