Landak river from Al-Muslimun, Ngabang

At the far end of the school lies this hut.

It overlooks the Landak river.

Looking downstream I started turning anti-clockwise...

A look down and across. The river here is 70 metres across.

Religious school of Al-Muslimun, Ngabang

From Mungguk we returned to Ngabang and stopped by this religious school.

It is called the Al-Muslimin.

The head teacher whom we've met at the mosque nearby earlier in the morning insisted that we pay a visit. So there we were looking around...

Hanging bridge over river Banyuke

In the article Going to Mungguk I've said that Mungguk lies near the meeting point of Banyuke and Landak rivers. We have crossed Landak river by boat. Next we were told there is a hanging bridge across the Banyuke and we decided to take it.

It is a plank bridge supported by thick iron wires.

Standing in the middle I started taking pictures while turning anti-clockwise.

That's the bridge we crossed by car in Going to Mungguk. It is upstream from here.

A look donwstream.

That's where the Banyuke joins the Landak river...

Crossing Landak river at Mungguk

Continuing from Going to Mungguk.

The place we were aiming for is the right spot for crossing the Landak river around here.

The river is 100 metres wide and the mode of transport are sampans, small traditional boats.

There. The local headman would take us across.

Pictures from the boat...

Mind you we have to be very carefull when moving our bodies as the sampan is very sensitive to the slightest movement. Go off balance and it could turn over...

Ah. Closing in on the other side.

Safely on land and starting to look back.

The small town or rather, village of Mungguk in view...

The reason we crossed the river is to get to the tomb of a Muslim king who ruled the kingdom of Landak more than 500 years ago. Look at the article Makam (Tomb of) Raja Abdul Kahar in the blogspot SENI LAMA MELAYU (MALAY OLDEN ART).

Going to Mungguk

Peace be upon you all. On to the 4th day of the recent West Kalimantan trip. Continuing from To Karangan via Bengkayang.

And so we have arrived at the town of Ngabang, centre to an old kingdom of Landak. Thursday morning 11th June 2015 we left town to go to a more rural area inland.

The destination is a much smaller town called Mungguk.

It is only 10 km from Ngabang. But condition of the road can wear you down.

The small town or rather, village of Mungguk is situated at the meeting point between the Banyuke and Landak rivers. Here's a pix as we crossed Banyuke river.

The village centre is situated before the bridge. We headed back to the centre upon realising we have overshot a certain place we were aiming for.
