Walking around Padang city centre

We arrived at our hotel at around 4.40pm. After some rest, at around 6.30 I decided to take a walk.

It was almost dusk. After leaving the alley to our hotel I immediately saw a mosque which turns out to be the main mosque of Padang.

That's when I realised our hotel is located right at the city centre albeit alongside some backrow houses.

Soon it was time for the Maghrib (dusk) prayers. I did my obligation as a Muslim at the mosque. By the time I got out which was at 7 it was already dark.

Nevertheless I continued to walk around to get a feel of the city centre.

My impression - It was almost like the Chow Kit area in the city of Kuala Lumpur. There are busy market parts frequented by locals but there are also more upmarket parts with expensive-looking hotels for discerning tourists...
