The river that gave Sungai Petani its name

Continuing from Pantai Murni waterfront in Yan, Kedah.

Later in the afternoon I went to the town of Sungai Petani.

I went to its old bus and taxi station to check out the river besides.

At first I thought this is a part of the Merbok river.

Checking out a bridge close by then only I found out it is actually a tributary of the Merbok river.

The signboard mentions it as Sungai Sg Petani.

The funny thing is Sungai means river and Sg is a shortform for the word Sungai. So you could translate it as river of the river of Petani.

Whatever this gives the name to the town of Sungai Petani
