Padang Rengas from its train station

Continuing from the article Butterworth from its train station.

From Butterworth I took a Komuter (commuter) train to Taiping and spent some time there. Then I took another Komuter train  and the service ends at Padang Rengas.

This place is about 10 km west of the royal city of Kuala Kangsar.

From the pedestrian bridge crossing the railway tracks I could get nice views of the surroundings...

Butterworth from its train station

As soon as I arrived in Butterworth I immediately head for its train station.

The last time I step foot around here the station has only one floor...

That was definitely more than a year ago. The station has been renovated to include an upper floor for  lobby, ticket counters and a waiting area.

From the floor you can get a good look at the town of Butterworth and its surroundings...

Leaving Georgetown for Butterworth

Soon its time to leave Georgetown. I chose to walk to the ferry terminal to Butterworth. That's the town across the straits that separate island Pulau Pinang and its mainland.

Walking to the ferry...

Had to wait for quite a while before the next ferry came...

Getting onboard a ferry...

View of Georgetown as the ferry moved leaving it behind.

Zooming in on the KOMTAR building.

Next. Looking in front towards Butterworth...

Jalan Hutton to KOMTAR and back to Lebuh Aceh

One of the roads adjacent to Penang Road is called Jalan (road of) Hutton). I walked along it after noticing a signboard pointing direction to a tomb.

I'd like to check it out and take pictures. Unfortunately the said tomb was under renovation.

So I decided to return back to Penang Road. But I veered off to another road first where lies a big police office.

Reaching Penang Road I continued the walk towards the iconic KOMTAR building.

That's the KOMTAR, abbreviation for Kompleks (complex of) Tun Abdul Razak, name of Malaysia's second Prime Minister.

A number of main roads meet at the base of KOMTAR making it a good reference to get anywhere in the city of Georgetown.

Entering the complex...

Out from another side...

From there I took this small road.

From the small road I entered a main road adjacent to Lebuh Aceh...

Following the length of Penang Road

Continuing from the article From Lebuh Aceh to Jalan Kuala Kangsar.

A check with Google Map shows, from Jalan Kuala Kangsar or rather, junction to Jalan Kuala Kangsar it is only 130 metres to Penang Road.

There, I've arrived at one of the biggest and most recognisable road in Georgetown.

To the left I could see the iconic KOMTAR building, the tallest man-made structure in Pulau Pinang.

But I took a right turn to get to the smaller iconic building of Chowrasta market.

I continued walking along Penang road heading for what I've checked on Google Map to be north-east.

As I go along I snapped pictures of some adjacent roads...

Next I saw a number of uniform bikes parked along the roadside.

As it turned out the bikes were for rent under a certain system where one can pick any bike from such a parking lot and return it at another such lot.

After some time I found what I was looking for at Penang Road, a famous Nasi Kandar (kind of mixed rice) restaurant.

After savouring a hearty meal I turned back towards the opposite side of Penang road and started exploring some adjacent roads...
