First proper visit to Tasik Kenyir with the wife and two young sons.

Peace be upon you this beautiful Friday. One more article from the trip to Terengganu made last weekend. Continuing from Views from the Pesisir Payang waterfront.

After spending a night at Serada in Kuala Terengganu then Langgar in Kuala Berang I brought the wife and kids to the large man-made lake called Tasik Kenyir.

The last time I brought the family our two young sons were not even born.

It was my stepdaughter and stepson who went along. That was sometime in 2009. Look at the article Enter Tasik Kenyir, the largest man-made lake in Malaysia!.

The last time I myself was here was in 2012. I was then on a biking trip with a friend. Look at Pengkalan Gawi... again.

So this is the first time I came here with the wife and our two sons. Too bad I forgot to take our pictures or at least their pictures with the lake in the background. It did not struck me that I would write this article with a family angle...

Come to think of it I did brought them earlier sometime if August or so last year.

But that was at other parts of Tasik Kenyir and we were simply passing the perimeters on our way to Gua Musang at night. So that doesn't count.

Views from the Pesisir Payang waterfront

At and upriver part of Kuala Terengganu city we found a new esplanade which looks like a combination of reclaimed land and long platform extending towards the middle of the river.

It is called Pesisir Payang. Pesisir literarily means waterfront while Payang refers to the name a famous nearby area.

Just like the tower bridge we did not notice these new buildings when we last went to Kuala Terengganu 8 months ago.

Much development has taken place at a rapid pace since then.

Looks like it is aimed at making Kuala Terengganu a great waterfront city...

The 'extended' Terengganu river mouth

Land reclamation works have been done around this area effectively extending the Terengganu river mouth further out into the South China Sea.

Marking the 'extended' and 'new' river mouth are man-made stone barriers extending from reclaimed lands at the south and north banks of the river...

Terengganu river and the 'tower bridge'

Continuing from Marang river waterfront.

Our main destination for the day is the city of Kuala Terengganu. We've learned about a month or two ago that a new bridge is being built across the Terengganu river.

It is situated quite close to the river mouth...

For the record Kuala Terengganu means the mouth of the Terengganu river.

Marang river waterfront

Going further north along the coastal road we soon arrived at the town of Marang.

Here we had a look at its waterfront...

Dungun river near the old Pulau Tenggol jetty

Next we went to an upriver part closer to the bridge crossing the Dungun river.

There is an old jetty for boats to Pulau (island of) Tenggol...

Looking around...

Dungun river from its Medan Ikan Bakar

An hour or so later we arrived at the town of Kuala Dungun. After conducting Friday prayers at the local mosque we went to the Medan Ikan Bakar - grilled fish square.

Situated close to the Dungun river mouth there are some nice views around.
