Pasar Karat, the "Rusty Market" of Muar

Peace be upon you all. Enter the first article here since the Muslim fasting month of Ramadhan arrived 2 weeks ago.

Last weekend we returned to my native home town, Muar and visited its Pasar Karat Santai. It is a variety of the Pasar Karat, a type of flea market for antique goods. Pasar is the Malay word for market and Karat means rusty referring to old metal goods which tend to get rusty over time. Santai means relaxed. It is added to the words Pasar Karat as a local variety of this type of flea market which has existed in some part of Malaysia for ages.

I understand this one in Muar was opened just over half a year ago. There is another one smaller just a kilometre or so away opened about 3 months earlier.

Actually these pictures were taken on our first visit 2 months ago.

But I didn't take pictures in our next visit last weekend. So let these ones show you around.

p/s : Actually this Pasar Karat is situated within the district of Ledang. Whatever, Ledang used to be a sub-district in Muar, only becoming a district on its own about 10 years ago if not mistaken. So personally I still like to identify Ledang as part of Muar.
