This blogspot is a medium to share my thoughts and adventures apart from promoting my books. Below are the books which have been written or authored and published by myself.

"Berpetualang ke Aceh: Mencari Diri dan Erti".

ISBN 983-42031-0-1, Jun 2006

"Berpetualang ke Aceh: Membela Syiar yang Asal"

ISBN 983-42031-1-x, May 2007

"Berpetualang ke Aceh: Sirih Pulang ke Gagang?"

ISBN 978-983-42031-2-2, November 2007

It is interesting to note that while these books were written in Malay it has gained enough attention to merit being part of the collections of the American Library of Congress and National Library of Australia. Look here and here.

While the first three books were published by my own company, the fourth titled "Rumah Azan" was published in April 2009 by a company called Karnadya with the help of the Malaysian national literary body Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka. It features beautiful pictures along with stories behind selected mosques which could be related to the history of Islam and the Malays alongside the formation of the Malaysian nation. Look at the article A collaboration of old collegemates - the book "Rumah Azan".

My fifth book "Ahlul Bait (Family) of Rasulullah SAW and Malay Sultanates", an English translation and adaptation of the Malay book "Ahlul Bait (Keluarga) Rasulullah SAW dan Kesultanan Melayu" authored by Hj Muzaffar Mohamad and Tun Suzana Othman was published early 2010. Look here... My 5th book is out! Ahlul Bait (Family) of Rasulullah SAW and the Malay Sultanates... . For more information check out my Malay blogspot CATATAN SI MERAH SILU.

Like my fourth book "Rumah Azan", the sixth book "Kereta Api Menuju Destinasi" is also a coffee-table book which is published by the company Karnadya with the cooperation of Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (the main Malay literary body in Malaysia). Coming out January 2011 it features pictures and stories on the adventure travelling by train to all of Peninsular Malaysia along with the interesting places which could be reached this way.

My seventh book "Jejak keluarga Yakin : Satu sketsa sejarah" in turn is a coffee-table book which is written, editted, designed and has pictures taken by me. Coming out of the factory October 2011, this book which combines family history with history of places such as Singapura, Johor, Batu Pahat, Muar and in fact the history of the island of Java and England has been reviewed with me interviewed live in the program Selamat Pagi Malaysia at RTM1. Look at the article Siaran langsung ulasan buku "Jejak keluarga Yakin : Satu sketsa sejarah" dan temu ramah di Selamat Pagi Malaysia. Some selected contents have been featured in Sneak peek "Jejak keluarga Yakin : Satu sketsa sejarah".

Kelantan river from Kok Majid

Continued from Kelantan river at the Kampung Laut jetty.

About 3 km further downriver lies the jetty of Kok Majid.

Somehow the jetty feels so cozy that one could just lie down at a bench and just doze off without a care.

Getting closer to the waters, a view upriver.

A view across.

A view downriver. If one doesn't know better one would think the Kelantan river got narrow here. Actually it only looks so because there are so many islands around as this area close to the estuary is a delta.

Another look upriver without the roof of the jetty obscuring parts of the sight. The piece of land to the left is obviously an island.

Zooming in at the same angle on could see a white building. I would explain what it is in a future article on the Kelantan river seen from that side, the eastern banks...

A look across again.

A look upriver with boats ready to take passengers around.

Kelantan river at the Kampung Laut jetty

Going to the 3rd day of the trip to the East Coast made end of 2010. Continuing from The Kelantan river near the royal jetty at Kota Bahru.

After spending the night at a place called Kutan we started a new day of visits to interesting places, among it is this jetty at Kampung Laut.

It lies a few miles north of the city of Kota Bahru, on the west bank of the river called Sungai Kelantan.

Thus these parts are closer to the estuary. A look upriver and you could see parts of Kota Bahru.

Zooming in. Look closely for it is from the jetty down the tall buildings that pictures from the previous article were taken.

Across lies an island blocking the view to the east bank.

A look downriver and you could see more islands which form the Kelantan river delta.

The Kelantan river near the royal jetty at Kota Bahru

Continued from Rushing through Kota Bahru.

OK. The meet up point is at a hotel near the Tambatan Di Raja (royal jetty) seen being rebuilt.

From around here you could get superb views of the river Kelantan. It is interesting to note the presence of boathouses easily accesible from the banks.

So we decided to check one out.

A view across.

A view downriver.

A view upriver...

Rushing through Kota Bahru

Continued from Al-Rasyid's first visit to Masjid (Mosque of) Kampung Laut.

From Masjid Kampung Laut we rushed to Kota Bahru.

You see a friend I just came to know recently through the Internet wanted to see us and he has been waiting since the previous day for us to arrive in Kota Bahru.

He has plans to bring me (not us as he said the condition then was troublesome, not safe for my wife and baby) to certain parts of Pattani in southern Thailand and it might take a few days.

So I was not sure if after that I would have time to explore Kota Bahru.

Thus these pictures were taken as I drove in town looking for the location to meet up.

For the record this is the 747th posting in the blogspot, an interesting number which reminds me of my favourite airplane when I was small, the Jumbo Jet, Boeing 747... :]

Al-Rasyid's first visit to Masjid (Mosque of) Kampung Laut

Continuing the storytelling from the article A quick look at the small town of Jeli.

From Jeli we went to Tanah Merah to get to the capital of Kelantan, Kota Bahru. At the outskirts of the capital lies this old mosque known as Masjid Kampung Laut.

I have been here many times and have featured it in a number of articles in my blogspots. In fact I have featured it in one of my books. Look at the article A collaboration of old collegemates - the book "Rumah Azan". But this visit is special as it is my baby son Muhammad Al-Aminul Rasyid's first time...

We stopped at the mosque after fetching his brother Haziq and sister Erin from their uncle's place not so far around.

I needed to stop and do my prayers.

Meanwhile the kids were playing outside.

Al-Rasyid was then a year and two months old.

In our previous visit middle of 2009 Al-Rasyid was still inside his mummy's tummy.

He was then eight months inside. Perhaps there's a part of him which could remember that previous visit... :]

A quick look at the small town of Jeli

Continued from Bridge over Sungai Pergau.

Soon we arrived at the small town of Jeli.

The town is situated about 10 km from the bridge over Sungai Pergau.

Frankly I found there is not much to look at in Jeli. But being the closest Kelantan town to the state of Perak it has a significant position in geography...

Whatever, I always like to snap pictures for posterity and what is available here should give a fair view of the small town.

Bridge over Sungai Pergau

Continued from Bridge over Sungai Balah.

About 23 km further up the road towards Jeli is the bridge of Sungai (river of) Pergau.

It is another substantial river and so I parked the car at the middle of bridge to take pictures (luckily the road is not busy)...

A look upriver. For the record the river originated somewhere along the northern parts of the main mountain range called Banjaran Titiwangsa before passing near the town of Jeli and on to here...

A look to the left.

A look downriver. It flows towards the south where the river called Sungai Balah flows into it (not so far from the bridge in the previous article). Then Sungai Pergau flows into the river called Sungai Galas just opposite the small small town of Dabong. And as mentioned in the article Sungai (river of) Galas from the Jelawang to Dabong town bridge, the river Galas in turn forms the river of Kelantan.

Another look upriver. Again, thank God for giving me an understanding and patient wife along with a lovely baby boy that seems to understand his father's passion for suddenly stopping in the middle of nowhere taking pictures. :]
