After looking at the river called Sungai Pengkalan Datu I went to visit some old tombs around the small town of Kedai Lalat before going to Pulau Melaka where lies this house located in front of a mosque.
While someone did invite me in to see the Tuan Guru I'm not here to see him.
Walking down the alley that separates the house from the mosque I wanted to check his detractor's claims that the house is not as humble as his people claim.
Tuan Guru Nik Aziz's house and the mosque is part of a religious school complex called Maahad Darul Anwar. The house is flanked by the mosque and school buildings.
Ah. This is the part of the house quite hidden from casual onlookers. When Nik Aziz's fans say look at him... despite the fact that he is the chief minister of Kelantan his house is so small and humble not to mention very accesible with no fencing around, his detractors were quick to say the other side of the house looks like a palace and that's the part most people rarely see. People, while I'm still not a fan of Nik Aziz I must say his fans are right to say his house is very humble. I have seen many VIPs or VVIPs houses much larger and posh than this. I've been in and around, not just looking from outside and imagining what's inside. In fact I have many relatives with bigger homes. While I don't know if Nik Aziz keeps secret palaces elsewhere I must say I have a lot of respect for him for living in this humble abode.
