Remote viewing of Gua Gunung Runtuh

Continuing from Viewing tower at Lenggong archaeological gallery...

In the afternoon we went to another part of Lenggong to visit some caves located at a hill.

The hill called Bukit Kepala Gajah, literally elephant head hill rises up to about 200 metres high from sea level.

We visited two caves lying at ground level. Look at the articles Gua (Cave of) Teluk Kelawar, Lenggong and Gua (Cave of) Kajang, Lenggong in the blogspot SENI LAMA MELAYU (MALAY OLDEN ART).

But those caves lie at parts outside the frame of views which could be shown here. We next went to this part because we were told there is a more significant cave around.

The cave is called Gua (cave of) Gunung Runtuh. It was the place where the famous ancient human skeleton known as Perak Man was found. Refer to the article Galeri Arkeologi Lembah Lenggong (Lenggong Valley Archaeological Gallery)

But it lies close to the summit. It is situated at about 150 metres above sea level.

It would need some jungle trekking and hill climbing to be reached. Not that it is impossible.  It's just we were too tired and short of time.

So what we did was fly a drone with camera to catch the views. Enough that we could have a remote view of the cave and/or its surroundings...

Continuing from Perak river from the bridge near Kota Tampan...

After breakfast we went to the said gallery at Kota Tampan. Look at the article Galeri Arkeologi Lembah Lenggong (Lenggong Valley Archaeological Gallery) in the blogspot SENI LAMA MELAYU (MALAY OLDEN ART). Behind it lies more exhibits situated on a hillside. Look at Pameran di belakang Galeri Arkeologi Lembah Lenggong (Exhibits behind Lenggong Valley Archaeological Gallery). After that there there is a walkway leading further up.

The walkway leads to a viewing tower on top of the hill.

I just had to go up and check out the views.

As usual I took pictures from as many angles as possible while going anti-clockwise...

Continuing from Views from Tasik Raban resort...

Soon it's time to start shooting. The first destination of the day is the Lenggong archeological gallery at Kota Tampan. But we have to have breakfast first. So we went on pass the junction to the gallery and crossed this bridge.

There are a number of food stalls just beside the bridge. The bridge crosses the Perak river.

As the production team had their fill I decided to walk up the bridge and check out the views...

Views from Tasik Raban resort

Peace be upon you all this Friday morning. On to the last day of the  14-17th March  shoots for the documentary series called "Daulah Melayu". Continuing from Chasing sunlight from the mountains in Kedah towards Perak.

Early Thursday morning 17th March 2015. We had spent the night at a homestay in Tasik (lake of) Raban, Lenggong, Perak.  It was so close to the lake that I decided to take a walk and check everything out. That is when I caught sight of this resort.

I went in to check what's available...

There. You can see it is situated besides the lake.

That's the Raja Muda Nazrin Shah bridge which is part of the Grik-Kuala Kangsar highway route.

On to other parts of the resort...

This should be the reception building. It was under renovation then.

That is part of the old Grik-Kuala Kangsar trunk road.

Chasing sunlight from the mountains in Kedah towards Perak

Continuing from Merbok river from the Semeling bridge.

Passing the fringes of Sungai Petani town we then headed to Grik which is situated  in the state of Perak.

Our destination was Lenggong which is about 60 km south of Grik. There were other routes to get there but we took this one because the road offers superb views as it passes through a mountain range situated in-between the states of Kedah and Perak.

My team wanted to shoots picture at a vantage point deemed to the highest or close on this route. A check with Google Earth shows it goes up to more than 1,600 feet above sea level.

But we were also chasing the sunlight as it was close to dusk. So we decided to stop at a spot which I later checked is at about 400 feet lower from the highest spot.

It should be close to the Perak-Kedah border, just about 500 metres away but still within Kedah.

So we took in what we could get before it got dark...

Merbok river from the Semeling bridge

Continuing from Merbok river from the new bazaar at Tanjung Dawai.

Just over 18 km downriver from Tanjung Dawai lies the Semeling bridge which crosses the Merbok river. Here the river which goes as wide as 2.3 km near its estuary tapered down to only 200 metres wide. I have passed this bridge a number of times as it connects the big town of Sungai Petani to the archeological sites at Sungai Batu and Lembah Bujang. I've always wanted to take pictures from this bridge but did not do so as it is narrow and often busy with traffic.

Travelling with the "Daulah Melayu" documentary team by van I managed to get these two decent pictures. The previous one shows the view upriver and this one is downriver. For the record this is the 1,500th article in this blogspot.

Merbok river from the new bazaar at Tanjung Dawai

Peace be upon you all. On 14-17th March I was in the northern parts of the Peninsular to make some shoots for the documentary series called "Daulah Melayu". For the record I am the host and a researcher. So I'd like to share some stories from the trip beginning with this.

Me and the production team left for Penang on Monday 14th March 2016. For this blogspot let me start from what's happening on Wednesday morning the 16th. We were in Merbok to continue shooting at the Lembah Bujang archeological museum (we started the previous day) when my producer and director took a break and asked me to tag along. So I suggested we go to Tanjung Dawai which is about 12-13 km from Merbok. We had breakfast at a bazaar which was opened just over a year or so if not mistaken.

It is situated close to the Merbok river mouth.

So I walked to the jetty close by for better views. Here's one looking at the river mouth...
