Picnic at the Tanjung of Muar

Just something from 11 days ago...

Sunday 13th October me and family were in Muar to visit my parents at their house. My sister was around with her kids. So we decided to spend time out at the place fondly known as Tanjung.

It happened that it was also my son, Rasyid's 4th birthday. He likes to go out to places like this.

We then went to another part of Tanjung where my dad took out a spread.

We had a nice picnic there. I think the last time I had picnic with the family around here was probably more than 20 years ago!

First Melaka city centre walk in 5 months...

Five days ago I made an article called First KL city centre walk in 5 months.... Today I'd like to make an article with similar vein, with a title that should also be self explanatory...

Monday noon I went to the Housing Ministry building at Putrajaya to sort out some papers.

The main destination of the day is however the city of Melaka. Putrajaya happened to be on the way.

I was following a friend who wanted to go to a seminar we are both interested in, to be held at Ayer Keroh on Tuesday. Upon arriving in the city we stopped by at a museum where he needed to get some books. This is a view from the museum ground. It stood close to the summit of the city centre's main hill.

We then went to the old mosque at Kampung Hulu. It has been some time since I visited this mosque, the main reason being the poor condition of my right leg as explained in First KL city centre walk in 5 months....

It was under renovation. So the main hall was closed. We could see a pair of cannons near the entrance temporarily dismantled.

Perhaps it would be polished later.

From the mosque we took a narrow path towards the tomb of an olden religious figure. It should be only 200-300 metres from the mosque but that is enough to challenge me in my current poor leg condition.

The path takes one to a village called Kampung Ketek.

There, we have reached the tomb ground.

Here is the main tomb.

It belongs to a saintly religious master from Aceh called Sheikh Shamsuddin Sumatrani. He passed away in around 1629 AD.

Next we went to Kampung (village of) Duyung where a new tourist attraction has been opened. Look at the article Hang Tuah Center in the blogspot SENI LAMA MELAYU (MALAY OLDEN ART).

We also visited the Perigi (well of) Hang Tuah at another part of Duyung, a well said to have been dugged by Hang Tuah, the famous Malay warrior from the golden age of the Melaka Sultanate (around 15th century AD).

Something from today...

After spending some time at the National Library, me and family decided to go to Dataran Merdeka, the independence square...

We thought we could see a group of Malay culture activists friends do their stuff at the underground shopping complex under the square. For the record they have been doing silat (Malay martial arts) while wearing olden traditional Malay aristocratic clothing on Saturdays since like 4-5 months ago.

Too bad they were not around. I have been wanting to see them perform here for some time but did not have the time nor the means to come earlier.

You see I had a serious leg injury end of April and still recuperating from it. All the while I had to be chauffeured by the wife, otherwise I could have rode my trusty big bike anytime to get here.

Since we were already at the square why not visit the KL Museum besides...

Our elder kid particularly enjoyed a model of the city.

Next, we walked to the Central Market. This is quite an achievement considering I am still on a crutch. While my leg's actual injury has healed it still take some time to fully recuperate and walk properly as my leg muscles has been out of action for quite a long period.

The last time I went here I think was over half a year ago. Otherwise it is normal for me to take periodical walks for miles covering a number of areas at the KL city centre.

It happened that there was a Kelantan cultural show at the CM's front.

Then the public was invited to partake and I took the call.

Sains Johor batch 83-87 reunion after 30 years entering school

Peace be upon you all. It has been 6 weeks since I updated this blogspot. Within this period I have not made much travel except to return to my wife's native village at Tanjung Sepat, Selangor and my parents' place in Muar for the Muslim festive month of Syawal celebration over a month ago and some short distance forays. Today let me share something about a meet made over the recent Sunday.

Returning from a small trip to Raub, Pahang me and family decided to join a meet held at a petrol station owned by an old school friend.

It was a meet of friends from the same batch who went to Sekolah Menengah Sains Johor (Johor Secondary Science School) in Kluang, Johor.

We entered school in 1983 for Form 1. We, well almost all of us as yours truly was expelled from school end of 86, ended school after Form 5 in 1987. So you could say we are the 83-87 batch of Science Johor boys...

We were then 13...

This meet commemorates the fact that it has been 30 years since we entered the school.

We are now 43-years-old but that did not stop some of us from jamming together for old time sake.
