Marang river at the town bridge

Continued from Dungun river right across Kuala Dungun.

From Dungun we went to the town of Marang which is on the way to Kuala Terengganu. Just before town lies this bridge across the Marang river.

Being a narrow bridge I have to park before it and walk for a good view. Here's one towards the river estuary which could be seen in the horizon.

Time to look upriver...

Next we went to a place which lies right across the small town of Kuala Dungun.

I don't know the name of the place. Here's a look upriver. See the bridge? Trying looking from it in Dungun river from the Kuala Dungun bridge.

Dungun river and the open waters at Teluk Bidara

Continued from Dungun river from the Kuala Dungun bridge...

So we have seen the Dungun river from many different places. Still there are other point of views I'd like to savour and one lies across from the small town of Kuala Dungun, on a strip of land jutting out onto the sea.

The place is called Teluk Bidara. The location is such that when I looked towards the upriver parts of the Dungun river I was actually looking at the estuary. The middle parts of this picture is where the views shown in the articles Dungun river from the Kuala Dungun fisheries complex and Dungun river closer to the estuary were seen from! 

When I look directly across from Teluk Bidara which is a bay I was looking across the South China Sea on to a part south of Dungun town.

Turning to the left or anti-clockwise on could see the end of the land jutting out onto the sea...

Time for the bridge. Continuing from Dungun river closer to the estuary...

We have seen the Dungun river from two different places as shown in Dungun river from the Kuala Dungun fisheries complex and Dungun river closer to the estuary. Next, let's check the views from the bridge which could be seen in the two articles.

Luckily it is wide enough to accomodate parked cars and the road was not busy. So I could drive all the way to the middle of the bridge and stop.

Walking across to the other side of the road I started taking pictures by savouring the view towards Dungun town.

Turning 30 degress anti-clockwise one could see the old part of town also known as Kuala Dungun, Kuala meaning estuary dan Dungun referring to the name of the river. See the blue-coloured building to the left? That's the fisheries complex jetty from where I took pictures in Dungun river from the Kuala Dungun fisheries complex.

Turning further anti-clockwise you could see the opposite bank of the river close to this bridge.

Now let's see the upriver parts and repeat the same process of taking in different angles by moving bit by bit anti-clockwise...

Dungun river closer to the estuary

At the end of the article Dungun river from the Kuala Dungun fisheries complex I said I would like to take pictures from the bridge seen crossing the Dungun river. Then I saw a part much closer to the estuary than the fisheries complex and decided to check it out.

See the open body of water? That is the South China Sea. This should show that the water flowing into the sea is at the estuary.

It's just there are still parts of land jutting out further to the sea and it lies across the river.

On to the next day of the trip to the East Coast made 26 March-4 April 2012. Continued from The caves of Gunung Senyum.

Wednesday 27th March. Having spent the previous night in Dungun, Terengganu we went to Kuala Dungun fisheries complex jetty.

I wanted to catch pictures of the Dungun river from here. For the record this place is close to the estuary. That's why it is called Kuala (estuary of) Dungun...

The caves of Gunung Senyum

Continued from Pahang river at Jerantut Ferry.

Next, we went to the recreational forest of Gunung Senyum, situated if I'm not mistaken in the district of Temerloh.

Gunung means mountain and Senyum is smile. I'm not sure if the facade of the so-called mountain looks like a smile. Perhaps it does but more of a spooky smile... :]

That's the wife carrying our then 40 days or so old baby closer to the 'mountain'.  As it is I don't think Gunung Senyum is high enough to be a real mountain, just a limestone hill...

In front of it lies what looks like a field. Don't be fooled. It is actually a lake covered by growth.

There's a pathway leading to another hill which like Gunung Senyum also has caves.

But we haven't got much time to explore every place.

So headed straight for Gunung Senyum and climbed its staircases...

There exists a Muslim tomb inside...

There are a number of caves to explore.

But we still have another place to rush to. So enough cave exploration for the day...

p/s: I did a double check later using Google Earth and found out the summit of Gunung Senyum stands at over 1,400 feet above sea level. I guess that does qualify it to be called mountain albeit a small one, not just a hill...
