Looking at the caves of Bukit Keluang till its last one

Continued from The resort called Terrapuri.

From Setiu we headed for Kuala Besut to get to the beach at Bukit Keluang.

Bukit means hill and Keluang is a type of giant bat. So Bukit Keluang means the hill of giant bat/bats.

Bats aside, the hill is well-known at least among the locals for its wooden walk.

Too bad the walk has been damaged.

But the real attraction of Bukit Keluang is its sea-side caves.

The walk just makes it easier to look at the caves.

Without the walk one has no choice but to observe it from ground level or rather the sands.

OK. I've been to Bukit Keluang 3 times before but never this far.

This time I could see a rock formation which looks like the head of a giant snake.

Before this I came with the wife and kids. So there's only so far they could walk and I couldn't leave them too far behind.

This time I came with a male friend and we walked all the way until the path is blocked by seawater.

Looking right we could see two caves.

Taking the left one, it leads to an opening.

Looking at the rock and soil formation outside (beside the fact that there's the sea to the left) we could confirm this is the last and furthermost cave of Bukit Keluang.

OK. The said beach actually lies across an exclusive holiday resort.

Called the Terrapuri it features a number of Terengganu traditional houses.

I understand the owner took pains to travel all across Terengganu looking for traditional houses more than a century old.

The houses were then dismantled, transported and reassembled here.

Continued from The wooden yacht yard at Pulau Duyong.

From Pulau Duyong we crossed the Terengganu river heading north before taking the coastal road. After some time we arrived in the state of Setiu where lies this beach.

It is probably the most beautiful strip of sand we came across in this journey. We accidently came across it after deciding to venture beyond a village called Sungai Mangkok.

Just look at this gazebo and chairs.

This strip stood out from the rest probably because it is well looked after by a private entity. Look at the continuing article afterwards.

The wooden yacht yard at Pulau Duyong

Continued from A visit to the old tombs of Makam Lama, Chabang Tiga.

Next we went to the island called Pulau Duyong where lies a small yard for making wooden yachts.

It is operated by locals.

For the record Pulau (island of) Duyong lies in the middle of the Terengganu river. The yard faces the city of Kuala Terengganu.

On to the 3rd day of the 27th September-1 October East Coast big bike trip.

Saturday 29th October 2012, after spending the night at the mosque of Tokku Paloh we went to a place called Chabang Tiga where lies this building.

For information Chabang Tiga still lies within the city of Kuala Terengganu.

The building is known as Makam Lama which literarily means the old tombs.

For inside lies a number of old tombs which I surmise should be at least 200 years old.

Most prominent are these two tombs, if not mistaken belonging to a prominent religious master and his wife.

The tombs are originally simply marked with stones.
