The beach at Teluk Senangin

Continued from Night time at Teluk Senangin.

The morning after... our first glimpse of the beach at Teluk Senangin as the day unfolded...

At 7 pm in the morning, the air was definitely refreshing...

So is the view. Here you can see the island of Pulau Pangkor still shrouded in morning mist...

Oh. For the record Teluk Senangin is a gulf. Teluk is the Malay word for gulf, Senangin a type of fish. Somewhere behind the cape lies the Damai Laut Swiss Garden Resort. See The scene at Damai Laut Swiss Garden Resort.

Baby Al-Rasyid enjoying the waters. This is the first time he set foot in salt water...

From this angle he looks like a giant baby crawling into the sea, hehe! :]

At 9 pm the day has gone much brighter...

The view got sharper. But somehow I prefer it more during early morning...

Night time at Teluk Senangin

After spending some time at the Swiss Garden Resort we went to a place called Teluk Senangin...


We had dinner at this rather quaint stall...

In fact we felt so calm at this place, we decided to rent a small hut for the night...

That's the wife posing with the baby. Mind you, this and the following pictures were taken without flash, relying only on whatever semblance of natural lighting available...

Note the resort island of Pulau Pangkor in the background. For the record this is the 545th posting in this blogspot...

I would also like to mention, at this juncture there are a total of 707 articles in my Malay blogspot CATATAN SI MERAH SILU and 383 in the bi-lingual SENI LAMA MELAYU (MALAY OLDEN ART) . That makes the numbers all 'symmetrical aligned'. Well, can't help it. I do have a fetish for numbers... :]

The scene at Damai Laut Swiss Garden Resort

From Sungai Sepit we went to the Damai Laut Swiss Garden Resort...

From here one could catch spectacular views of the open waters of the Straits of Melaka.

One could have a good look at the resort island of Pulau Pangkor...

Mind you, we arrived after 7 pm. So the sky was getting dark. But that did not stop us from having a look at the lower parts of the resort.

As it turned out, there was a convention in progress...

We went on to the resort's private beach.

That's baby playing with the sand as mum watched over closely...

Views at Sungai Sepit

This is the jetty at Sungai Sepit.

Sungai Sepit is a river which flows into the mightier Dinding river.

Like at Damar Laut one could also see the town of Lumut from here. Look at Lumut from Damar Laut.

Across the jetty one could see a rather secluded small beach. Make me wonder does it belong to a private entity or is it one of those places kept by supernatural beings? Hmm... :]

Lumut from Damar Laut

Continued from Looking for Beruas river estuary behind the hills of Segari.

After spending some time around Segari I went to the jetty of Damar Laut...

It is situated besides the wide river Dinding...

Actually it lies opposite the jetty at the town of Lumut.

A view towards inland. The immense body of water never fails to take my breath...

That's the wife and baby. If not for the fact that we arrived late, at around 6:30 pm when the jetty was already closed we would have ventured further and I would have taken better pictures...

Looking for Beruas river estuary behind the hills of Segari

From Beruas I went to the much bigger town of Pantai Remis. This is the view of the hills of Segari as one went further south and got out of town...

Just before the foot of the hills I took a right turn heading towards open sea or rather, the waters of the Straits of Melaka...

You see, this is the first time I entered these parts of Pantai Remis...

Based on memory of the local map and geography, I reckoned I should be able to find the estuary of the Beruas river at its widest point around here, the place where it meets the Straits of Melaka...

Ah... I could already see parts of what is obviously a river. But coordinate-wise, the Beruas river should be on my right not to the left...

So I continued taking the small road towards open waters...

And here I am facing the straits of Melaka which looks like a sea from most points. But where's the Beruas river estuary?

A look to the south and I could see the other river I previously saw. Then there's the highest peaks of the Segari hills in the background.

That's when the locals told me, the Segari river is a bit of a distance behind these mangrove trees. There's no way I could see the estuary from here and the mangrove swamp covers a wide area. It seems my geography is off mark but hey, what heck? I still get to see places right? :]

Cooling down at Ulu Licin

Continued from Lumut's mangrove park...

After Lumut we went to Beruas. We visited a mosque, some old tombs and then the museum there before deciding to check out something else into the jungle...

This is a route I've never ever taken before...

A few kilometres north of the small town of Beruas and you are entering the Gunung (Mount) Bubu forest reserve...


Go on straight till the signboard shows you are entering a dead end...

Welcome to the recreational forest of Ulu Licin, Beruas...

There's a stream called the river of Licin, licin being the Malay word for slippery. Ulu Licin simply means upriver Licin....

Apparently it's quite a popular picnic place for locals.

That's our car with the wife walking out. We decided to park as deep inside as possible...

Afterwards the road is only big enough for motorcycles...

We turned right and walked towards a small waterfall.

And then find a nice spot to cool down...
