This blogspot is a medium to share my thoughts and adventures apart from promoting my books. Below are the books which have been written or authored and published by myself.

"Berpetualang ke Aceh: Mencari Diri dan Erti".

ISBN 983-42031-0-1, Jun 2006

"Berpetualang ke Aceh: Membela Syiar yang Asal"

ISBN 983-42031-1-x, May 2007

"Berpetualang ke Aceh: Sirih Pulang ke Gagang?"

ISBN 978-983-42031-2-2, November 2007

It is interesting to note that while these books were written in Malay it has gained enough attention to merit being part of the collections of the American Library of Congress and National Library of Australia. Look here and here.

While the first three books were published by my own company, the fourth titled "Rumah Azan" was published in April 2009 by a company called Karnadya with the help of the Malaysian national literary body Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka. It features beautiful pictures along with stories behind selected mosques which could be related to the history of Islam and the Malays alongside the formation of the Malaysian nation. Look at the article A collaboration of old collegemates - the book "Rumah Azan".

My fifth book "Ahlul Bait (Family) of Rasulullah SAW and Malay Sultanates", an English translation and adaptation of the Malay book "Ahlul Bait (Keluarga) Rasulullah SAW dan Kesultanan Melayu" authored by Hj Muzaffar Mohamad and Tun Suzana Othman was published early 2010. Look here... My 5th book is out! Ahlul Bait (Family) of Rasulullah SAW and the Malay Sultanates... . For more information check out my Malay blogspot CATATAN SI MERAH SILU.

Like my fourth book "Rumah Azan", the sixth book "Kereta Api Menuju Destinasi" is also a coffee-table book which is published by the company Karnadya with the cooperation of Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (the main Malay literary body in Malaysia). Coming out January 2011 it features pictures and stories on the adventure travelling by train to all of Peninsular Malaysia along with the interesting places which could be reached this way.

My seventh book "Jejak keluarga Yakin : Satu sketsa sejarah" in turn is a coffee-table book which is written, editted, designed and has pictures taken by me. Coming out of the factory October 2011, this book which combines family history with history of places such as Singapura, Johor, Batu Pahat, Muar and in fact the history of the island of Java and England has been reviewed with me interviewed live in the program Selamat Pagi Malaysia at RTM1. Look at the article Siaran langsung ulasan buku "Jejak keluarga Yakin : Satu sketsa sejarah" dan temu ramah di Selamat Pagi Malaysia. Some selected contents have been featured in Sneak peek "Jejak keluarga Yakin : Satu sketsa sejarah".

The Sepit river from a place inland

Later I tried to find a place to get good views of the Sepit river.

For the record it is a tributary of the Dinding river, the biggest and lying the closest to the Dinding river estuary.

Thank God I found this jetty...

The fishing boats might block the view a bit but the vista is still superb from here.

A look upriver...

A look across...

And a look downriver...

Views from Baitul Hilal observation tower in Segari

Next I went to the beach of Pasir Panjang where lies an institution called the Baitul Hilal.

Baitul Hilal is Arabic for a place to watch the moon... especially new moon. Seen here is the observation tower for the job.

Why watch the new moon? Because it is a traditional way of determining the coming of a new month in the Islamic calendar.

This is very important especially to detemine the start of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadhan and the following festive month of Syawal where people are urged to enjoy after having succesfully complete the fasting month. While the start of a month can be determined using falak or astrological calculations, religion demands that confirmation is made by physically observing the new moon.

While this place lies at the beach of Pasir Panjang, the overall area and its surrounding is better-known as Segari.

Anyway here are the views from on top the tower...

River Dinding from Changkat Keruing

Next I went to check out the Dinding river near the small town of Changkat Keruing.

This is the same river that opens wide in front of the resort town of Lumut. Look at the older article The Dinding river in front of Lumut town.

While Lumut is about 5 km away from the estuary, Changkat Keruing is some 18 km further inland.

A look downriver.

A look across.

A look upriver. But really, given the calmness of the water its hard to tell the direction of flow, which way is inland, which way towards the sea until I have studied satellite pictures using Google Earth...

Finally. The Beruas river estuary

From Pengkalan Baru I went to the town of Pantai Remis looking for the estuary of the Beruas river.

I have reached somewhere close by a few years ago only to learn that I have yet to arrive at the actual estuary.

Two years ago I tried looking for the estuary again only to find that I have overshoot it by more than a kilometre to the south. Then my wife was already tired of me for making too much forays and stops to look for things. So I had to move on. Look at the old article Looking for Beruas river estuary behind the hills of Segari.

You see while the Beruas river estuary is quite near to the town of Pantai Remis, the road leading to it is quite tricky.

So imagine my delight upon finding out, this time I was on the right track.

This time I could see clearly how the waters of the Beruas river join the sea.

Waiting for this boat to move out for a clearer perspective...

A look upriver.

A look across.

And a look into the open sea... or rather, the Straits of Melaka.

Beruas river at Pengkalan Baru

Next I arrived at a place called Pengkalan Baru where the river Beruas also passes through.

This area is much closer to the sea. So the river is 3-4 times much wider.

A look upriver.

 A look downriver...

Beruas river from Kampung Kota

On to the 5th day of the solo big bike trip made towards the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadhan. Continued from Perak river from Kuala Kenas.

On the 4th day I've travelled from Kuala Kangsar down south through Manong, Parit and Bota Kanan down to Kampung Gajah before heading up north again via Bota Kiri to get to the town of Lumut at the eastern coast of Perak. The next day, Wednesday 15th August 2012 I headed for the small town of Beruas. Just about 4 km before reaching town is the village of Kampung Kota where I decided to have this look at the river Beruas.

For the record this is a far inland part of the river.

A look downstream...

Walking across...

And a look upstream...

Kuala Lumpur City Gallery

On to something very recent.

Today I spent time attending a makeshift book stall in front of the Kuala Lumpur library besides the Merdeka Square. Nearby lies this building...

I have passed here many times but today I was prompted by a friend to check it out.

Admission is free, so why not?

As it turned out the place is a treasure trove to search for information about the city, history of its buildings and streets.

There are many intricate models of famous landmarks.

But what really caught my eye was a model of the KL skyline.

I learned that the gallery was opened a year ago while this part was only made accesible about a month ago. Have a look at the video below...

This is a model of Merdeka Square and its vicinity.

Then there's a hall for selling souvenirs mainly in the form of thin model carvings of well-known buildings.
